Product variants: sizes, colours and custom options

Sell every size and colour from one product page

Sizes, colours and any extra option you need, each variant with its own stock and SKU.

What it does

  1. Size and colour are built in, and you can rename them per product, for example Thickness instead of Size
  2. Add your own option axes such as Material, each with a fixed list of values
  3. Each variant has its own SKU, stock count and optional price
  4. The shop only offers combinations you actually have in stock

How it works

  1. Set the optionsOn the product, choose which options it has and list their values.
  2. Create variantsAdd a row per combination with its stock and, if it differs, its price.
  3. Customers pickThe product page shows a picker per option and greys out what has run out.

An order comes in. You see it first.

A new website order arrives at the top of the Orders list, the count waiting for you goes up, and the order opens ready to confirm.

Two built-in options, as many custom ones as you need

Most products vary by size or colour, so those two are ready on every product. When a product varies by something else, add an option axis, give it its values, and every variant row gets a drop-down for it instead of free text. That stops a typo from inventing a value your shoppers never see.

SKUs are generated from the option values, including your custom ones, so two variants that differ only by material still get different codes.

Questions

Can a variant have its own price?

Yes. Leave it empty to use the product price, or set a price for that variant.

Can I add a third option like material?

Yes. Custom option axes sit alongside size and colour, and the storefront shows a picker for each.

What happens when one variant sells out?

That combination can no longer be chosen on the product page. The others stay on sale.
